Can you see an exhibition of contemporary art without departing with the feeling of being cheated? Is there an artist who can heal the distrust we feel for everything labeled as contemporary art? Can you enjoy contemporary art?
The answer to all questions is a big if, as we saw the other day. By posting the schedules of the cultural centers, we were struck by the exhibition of an artist, Enrique Cruz - Calonge . We were not sure because it was art now, how bad the press is, that being said I could do to a child of five years.
But, as we must never lose hope, we decided to give it a try and went to the Latinarte room, where there was exposure. As we entered, we knew we had done well, that we were wrong.
We had read online that the artist's work was divided into five cycles, and that the exhibition was a selection, we were informed of the international awards he had received ... We've known for many things, but none of that mattered. As it should not matter when one is dealing with a work of art, be it a song, a book or a movie. The important thing is to locate yourself in front of her, put a blank mind and let yourself go.
first thing we noticed was the use of colors. Almost all the pictures grouped by cycles were composed on the basis of dialogue of a few basic colors (black-red-white in the cycle of the universe , yellow-red cycle of agony ). These took various forms basic colors. It had managed to balance the tables. By always wearing the same colors, but giving them different ways, establishing a kind of musical dialogue between them and between a box and another that was really beautiful.
And, the study of forms is another theme of the show is. The artist is not afraid to incorporate into his paintings different textures and elements, such as newspapers, using the technique of collage . And not only that. Complements their works printed dresses in which a variation of the theme. In this way, get us to fall into a whole universe itself.
This personal universe, throughout all the works displayed in Latinarte, the presence of the sphere, the circular, of the spiral is omnipresent. The artist plays with different variations of the same figure, materializing in moons, eyes and breasts of women. They all convey different feelings, calm, threat, pain ... No look indifferent. The feelings that lie behind those eyes are intense, both that we feel ashamed to look at them intently.
Enrique Cruz-Calonge not afraid to show their influences in his works, the artists who have inspired him. No wonder, therefore, that sometimes remind us looked at Mondrian or even Kandinsky . For us, an artist, the attitude, not to hide their teachers, is a great virtue.
And we, though we would like, because we prefer you to discover for yourselves to this great author, at least to us, reconciled us with contemporary art. Just remember that the exhibition will be on Latinarte until the 31st of this month of May. No I repent.
